Frequently Asked Questions

What Does Beginning Counselling Look like?

I offer a 15-minute introductory phone call free of charge, during which you can ask any questions you may have and we then have the option to arrange an initial consultation.  The initial consultation is a chance for us to get to know each other, for me to get a sense of your story, and to hear about what has brought you to counselling.  From there, if we both agree to proceed, we can arrange weekly 50-minute sessions at a suitable regular time.

How Does Payment Work?

I charge in advance for an initial consultation, then for regular ongoing sessions I invoice at the end of the month for the sessions we have had during that month.  I accept payment via bank transfer, cheque or cash.  Concessionary rates may be available for those on low income, so please contact me to discuss this if necessary.

What if I Miss a Session?

Because your slot is reserved for you, missed sessions are chargeable.  We do have the option of rearranging a session if you know in advance you will not be able to attend.  If I am not able to attend a session I will let you know as far in advance as possible.  I take breaks at Christmas, Easter, and for a couple of weeks over the summer.  There is no charge for sessions for which I am not available.

Are the Sessions Confidential?

Yes.  The only exception to this is if I were concerned for your safety or the safety of others.  If this were the case I would look to speak with you about the situation unless there were safeguarding issues preventing this. As a BACP Registered Member I abide by their Ethical Framework, meaning I attend regular supervision with a clinical supervisor to discuss client work, but identifying details are not shared.
